Dreyer's to close Houston ice cream plant

Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Inc., Oakland, said it plans in April to close a Houston ice cream plant and transfer its production to four other facilities in Bakersfield and Tulare, Calif.; Laurel, Md.; and Ft. Wayne, Ind. Officials said the Houston closure will affect 168 employees while another 115 workers will remain in corporate sales, distribution and corporate support roles.
