COLD SUPPLY CHAIN BRIEFS

An automated freezer storage and retrieval system is just one of several features at a new bakery in Clayton, N.C., operated by Northeast Foods, a Baltimore-based supplier of buns to McDonald's. Charlotte, N.C., design builder AM King said it completed a 103,000-sq.-ft. bakery earlier this spring. The project includes a 70,000-sq.-ft. bakery and a 13,500-sq.-ft. freezer-distribution center that's 56 feet high and maintained at -10F, officials said.


Wendell Erb was appointed president and CEO at The Erb Group of Companies, a refrigerated truck carrier. Based in New Hamburg, Ont., Canada, Erb said former President Vernon Erb stepped down from his position but remains as chairman for Erb Enterprises Inc. Wendell Erb is Vernon Erb's eldest son. Wendell previously was general manager for The Erb Group of Companies

Officials say The Erb Group employs more than 1,200 employees and 140 owner/operators. The company includes Erb Enterprises Inc., Erb Transport Limited, Erb International Inc., Erb Transport Inc., Erb Transportation Solutions Inc. and K-DAC Enterprises Inc. Erb says it offers more than 800 power units and 1,000 refrigerated trailers to meet customers' needs.
