DRIVE-THROUGH DOCK APPLICATIONS

Rite-Hite, Milwaukee, Wis., showcased its “drive-through” dock application, where when the trailer is secured to the dock, the dock door opens, the trailer’s security seal breaks and the doors open into the building. This limits opportunities for tampering and exposure to outside elements and contaminants. The RHV-4100 Vertical-Storing Hydraulic Dock Leveler features a constant-radius rear hinge to create a smooth transition between the leveler and the warehouse floor to minimize the effects of whole body vibration (or “dock shock”), while a 2-point crown control on the front lip hinge distributes the load evenly. For added safety, the RHV is a power-up/power-down unit that requires constant pressure on the controls to keep the operator in control of leveler movement. Removing pressure from the “raise” or “lower” buttons immediately stops movement of the leveler. The lip can also be extended or retracted at any time during the leveler cycle. Because the RHV stores vertically, it allows for easy, routine pit cleaning or full washdown. Additionally, in its stored position, it acts as a visual/physical barrier, helping prevent potentially dangerous loading dock accidents and door damage.

Meanwhile, Rite-Hite’s Eclipse NH provides a tight, consistent seal all the way up trailer sides, across the top and at the corners, minimizing gaps that can allow contaminants to enter and energy to escape. It features an exclusive double-seal technology along the sides of the trailer, which produces a tighter, more consistent seal along trailer sides. Side curtains are built with high-strength, friction-resistant Durathon fabric. Along the top of the trailer, an exclusive weighted head curtain applies over 100 pounds of pressure across the full width of the trailer top to keep the curtain in constant contact with the trailer during loading and unloading. At the top corners, the Eclipse’s side curtains and weighted header work together to seal gaps, while innovative fabric corner pockets connect sides to top.

Rite-Hite’s exclusive PitMaster under-leveler sealing system provides a barrier against environmental infiltration on the exterior of the dock. Meanwhile, lip corner seals, filler pads and other components block gaps on the inside of the dock.

Lastly, Rite-Hite’s exclusive Dok-Lok SHR 5000 uses a patented “shadow hook” to secure intermodal container chassis and trailers with rear-impact guard obstructions, as well as traditional trailers. The Dok-Lok SHR-5000 is a physical theft deterrent and can directly interface with security systems to help prevent trailer theft.

RETAIL DELIVERY SYSTEM

ORBIS Corp., Oconomowoc, Wis., featured its spectrum of reusable packaging and retail delivery system.

The 42x30-inch small-format HP pallet frees up trailer space by allowing more pallets to fit in each vertical stack, while maximizing cube efficiency of the truck with 45 configurations vs the standard 30. This pallet allows full cases and split cases to be sorted and loaded at the distribution center to optimize routes. After arriving at the retailer, it can be moved directly to the floor and used as a replenishment vehicle at the point of sale. This small-format pallet maximizes floor space and fits in narrow aisles to accommodate compact retail formats. The pallet’s contoured corners won’t damage product, and the solid body construction accommodates a variety of load sizes and weights.

The OPTE Bulk is a collapsible bulk system comprised of a plastic pallet, reusable sleeve and top cap, in footprints from 32x44 inches to 40x48 inches. Sleeves are available in several heights, styles and access door configurations. When full, the OPTE Bulk protects bulk products and tote systems during shipping. When empty, the sleeves collapse for easier storing and reduced freight costs, and the lightweight components allow for safer handling.

Tote dollies are available for a variety of handheld totes and trays, and can be used within a distribution center for easy tote handling between workstations and at retail for efficient replenishment. Dollies are available in a variety of materials, footprints and configurations. Non-marking casters also are available for retail floors.

Carts can streamline picking and fulfillment in both distribution centers and retail environments. When integrated with reusable totes, users have a flexible system that connects picking to delivery. They can be integrated with reusable picking and distribution totes to more conveniently store and stage goods. The mobility of the carts is critical to accelerate picking speed and improve order accuracy in this fast-paced landscape. Standard carts feature powder-coated construction for a long life and aesthetics. All carts feature heavy-duty casters to minimize noise and ensure easy maneuverability.

The Pally is part dolly, part pallet. This dual feature allows materials to be stored, transported and distributed with less equipment, minimal labor and few touch points. The Pally is what unloads and moves the materials to their destination. When mobile, the Pally quickly converts to static mode with a press of the pedal. When static, the rubber braking stabilizers ensure the Pally withstands lateral force, allowing for stable transport within a trailer. For small-format retailers, the Pally supports frequent product deliveries and easily maneuvers in tight spaces. It also assists in picking and fulfilling material, and enables staging of e-commerce products designated for store pickup.

Pick by voice directs the primary picking directly to the shipping carton while also directing the picking of items to the put-to-light consolidation operation. When combined with put to light, it allows both single zone picking direct to the shipping carton and simultaneously sweeping items across all of the warehouse zones to consolidation totes.

Put to light put walls scale from small to large order consolidation requirements with 50-plus order consolidation shelf positions. Each shelf includes a pick-to-light/put-to-light multi-color display indicator, confirmation button and shelf color LED light-bar illuminator. Each display position includes a color light bar that illuminates to light the entire shelf position to quickly and accurately guide the operator to put and verify placement of the required items to the required shelf. Operators use a hands-free bluetooth ring 2-D scanner to scan either the item barcode or the tote/case batch of items to rapidly light, put and confirm orders. When the last item is scanned, the alpha numeric display lights up, showing the order is complete and the required carton size for packing and shipping.

The robot operates at a speed of 6 feet per second and at a storage height of up to 13 feet. When the lithium-ion battery is running low, viarobot automatically drives to its charging station. The device can also work in the dark and in unheated environments.
