Study: U.S. packaging demand to rise 3.5% annually by 2022

Demand for packaging in the United States is forecast to increase 3.5% yearly in nominal terms through 2022, according to “Packaging: United States,” a report released by Freedonia Focus Reports, Cleveland, Ohio.

Advances will be driven by rising demand for high-quality food and beverage products. Meal kits will represent a boom opportunity, however tariffs on aluminum and steel represent an existential threat.

The long-term trend of outsourcing U.S. manufacturing and packaging operations to developing economies that offer lower-cost production will continue to restrain faster advances for U.S. manufacturing and industrial packaging.
