98% of logistics companies say that customer service is a critical piece of their company’s overall business strategy.

Technology is transforming businesses of all shapes and sizes, and the logistics and transportation industry is no exception. Replacing labor-heavy processes and time-intensive workplace operations, technology is propelling logistics businesses to grow more efficiently than ever before.

To get an inside look at how companies are using technology to support a global, always-on workforce, Front, San Francisco, surveyed leaders across IT, operations and customer service.

According to the report, “2019 Logistics Tech Trends,” 98% of logistics companies say that customer service is a critical piece of their company’s overall business strategy. And, 55% said keeping up with customer service 24/7 is their biggest challenge. Other emerging challenges in the logistics sector are instant gratification, new players and a globalized workforce.

To keep up with rising demand and competition, logistics companies are turning to technology to scale. In fact, most companies were becoming “digitized” — with more than 50% of their operations involving technology.

Transportation management systems (TMS) remain one of the most critical tools in the tech stack, as 61% of companies said that they currently employ a TMS in their day-to-day operations. However, the No. 1 deterrent in purchasing new software is resistance and reluctance to change.
