Steve's Mediterranean, a metro-Detroit family-owned company which produces Mediterranean food favorites like hummus, tabouli, garlic sauce, grape leaves, and spinach feta pie, will now offer new ready-prepared meals to Kroger customers in Michigan with the launch of Steve’s Mediterranean Express.
There are nine ready-to-eat meals with traditional chicken and beef choices as well as vegetarian options. Meals feature signature Mediterranean dishes including chicken shawarma; kefta kabob (seasoned beef skewers); fattoush salad; and vegetarian favorites such as veggie-stuffed grape leaves, falafel, mujadara, and more. The meals are at three price points: $10.99, $12.99, and $15.99.
Randall Melton, vice president of merchandising at Kroger, said the new ready-to-eat options were particularly welcome because of the growing popularity of Mediterranean food and commitment to fresh food for customers.
“Steve’s Mediterranean Express provides fresh flavors and high-quality lunches and dinners for customers who are on the go,” he said. “It offers a healthy choice for Kroger customers searching for convenient meals and we are very excited to launch the new brand in our stores.”
Steve’s Mediterranean debuted a rebranded look in 2021 for its grocery items, with brighter new packaging, and it also celebrated a seven-fold growth in sales since the company’s purchase in 2013, with sales rising from $800,000 (resale and wholesale) to $6 million in 2021.
Steve’s Mediterranean line of products is now sold in 250 stores in Michigan including Kroger, Meijer, Nino Salvaggio, Papa Joe’s Market, Holiday Market and Vince and Joe’s Gourmet Market. It has recently expanded distribution into northern and western Michigan and many restaurants and hotels serve the high-quality brand, including Leo’s Coney Island, the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and MGM and MotorCity Casino Hotel.
