FreshRealm, a leading national Fresh Meals platform, is acquiring all the operational assets of Marley Spoon – a leading global subscription-based meal kit provider (publicly traded in Germany and Australia) – and entering into a strategic partnership, under which FreshRealm will handle all U.S. operational and fulfillment activities for Marley Spoon through its platform. In addition, Marley Spoon’s recently acquired BistroMD will also join the FreshRealm platform, offering a subscription service that provides ready-to-eat, gourmet meals, specifically designed for optimal weight loss and long-term weight management. 

FreshRealm is the only Fresh Meals provider to deliver a national end-to-end platform and infrastructure that simplifies how Fresh Meals are delivered through the supply chain and brought to consumers’ tables. Its optimized, channel-agnostic platform provides e-commerce and direct-to-consumer, brick-and-mortar food retailers, restaurants, and other food service providers with end-to-end Fresh Meals solutions encompassing product development, supply chain, manufacturing, and nationwide fulfillment. Current retail partners include Blue Apron, Kroger, Publix, Walmart, Amazon Fresh and more. 

The $24-million deal will integrate all of Marley Spoon’s U.S. operational and supply chain infrastructure into its U.S.-based network. The transaction also includes Marley Spoon’s transfer to FreshRealm of three production and fulfillment facilities in Newark, New Jersey, Tracy, California, and Dallas, Texas.  

This move follows FreshRealm’s recent similar deal acquiring the operational assets of Blue Apron as it continues to grow its platform and transform the massive Fresh Meals space, a rapidly growing $900 billion market on track to grow to $1.8-trillion in 2030. Through its recent investments, FreshRealm has expanded its operational facilities to create 100 million fresh meals annually, enabling over $1 billion of GMV for its retail customers.
