The Controlled Environment Building Association (CEBA) names Stellar and Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd as the recipients of the 2024 CEBA Built By The Best Award.

Built By The Best recognizes innovative controlled environment construction projects. A controlled environment includes facilities that hold goods that require a consistent temperature, including fresh and frozen food storage, pharmaceutical supply chain, data centers and processing facilities and more. The nominations are organized into two categories – projects under $35 million and over $35 million.

The Awards were presented during the CEBA Annual Conference and Expo held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. CEBA is supported by the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA).

Stellar won the award for their state-of-the-art 136,000-square-foot, 140-foot tall, frozen food storage facility extension in Russellville, Arkansas.

The multimillion-dollar project completed for Americold Logistics includes an ammonia refrigeration system, insulated metal panel (IMP) exterior walls, an automated truck unloading system, a sophisticated fire protection system, and an advanced automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) with gantry and loop connections linking the warehouse to the loading docks.

“This award highlights Stellar’s leadership in Design-Build ASRS and our commitment to delivering innovative, client-focused solutions. Partnering with Americold Logistics, we developed an advanced design that not only meets their needs but also strengthens their ability to serve their clients. We are honored to receive this award from CEBA,” said Wyatt Payne, SVP of food logistics for Stellar.

Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd won the award for its 160,000-square foot, multi-use facility constructed for Dot Foods Canada in Ingersoll Ontario. The project includes a freezer, cooler/cold dock, ambient storage, production area, and office space. This facility included a number of project management and technology innovations, including a sustainably conscious CO2 Refrigeration system.

“Thank you to CEBA for this recognition. It is very meaningful as we are very proud of this project and grateful to Dot Foods for the opportunity to deliver it together,” said Jason Sabourin, project director, F&B at Maple Reinders.  “This was truly a collaborative design-build effort and we are thankful to our design team, sub-contractors, and our field and management team that ensured this project was delivered safely and successfully. This facility represents a huge milestone for Dot Foods and its presence in Canada. It will be a great source of jobs and service to the local community for many years to come.”

Fisher Construction Group and Primus Builders also presented recent projects during the conference. The awards were decided by a team of judges drawn from the non-submitting member companies within the CEBA Board and Committees.
