Psion Teklogix WORKABOUT PRO with RFID UHF Reader
Pro baseball scouts say the best young players have “five tools” – referring to their abilities to hit for average, hit for power, throw, field and run the bases (demonstrating both skill and speed). In the food logistics industry, tools and pros have a different meaning. Psion Teklogix, Mississauga, Ont., partnered with CAEN RFID, Viareggio, Italy, to integrate CAEN’s Gen 2 UHF A528 compact RFID reader into the Psion Teklogix WORKABOUT PRO.
“In order to further adoption of RFID, technological innovations such as the WORKABOUT PRO and its smart integration of the CAEN A528 RFID reader with the Impinj Indy R1000 reader chip are needed to create new capabilities and additional uses for technology, including high density RFID tag reading,” said Pierre Bonnefoy, Psion Teklogix director of RFID solutions. “This integration provides the market with a mobile computing device that combines the best of leading-edge technologies from CAEN and Impinj.”
Psion Teklogix says the WORKABOUT PRO has the ability to operate within European and North American regulatory environments.
“The WORKABOUT PRO’s features – including our Indy R1000 reader chip – open the door to new applications for RFID in industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, asset management, finance and aviation,” said Kerry Krause, Impinj vice president of marketing. “The solid performance, small size and low-power consumption features of the R1000 make it the perfect fit for Psion Teklogix’ new versatile handheld.”
Psion Teklogix says WORKABOUT PRO operates in temperatures from –20C to +50C (-4F to 122F).
