Stellar, an architecture, engineering, construction and mechanical services firm based in Jacksonville, Fla., completed United States Cold Storage’s (USCS) phase-two expansion of its Turlock, Calif., refrigerated warehouse, and began construction on Dot Foods’ expansion of its Mt. Sterling, Ill., facility.
Stellar added 98,000 square feet of warehouse space to the USCS-Turlock facility, bringing the total square footage to 300,000. Stellar previously designed and built the 202,000-square-foot phase-one facility.
New additions include a 39,000-square-foot, -20°F freezer, two convertible rooms with temperatures ranging from 35°F to -20°F and a 9,000-square-foot, 35°F shipping dock. The facility features energy-efficient LED lighting and a shrinkage-compensating concrete slab floor. Construction began June 2011 and was complete December 2011.
Stellar is also building a 148,000-square-foot freezer addition for Dot Foods’ existing 465,000-square-foot Mt. Sterling warehouse. Stellar is providing full design-build services, including refrigeration and thermal work.
The expansion includes a -10°F freezer, two 35°F shipping and loading docks and a 35°F connecting corridor. Construction began December 2011 and is scheduled for completion in August.
