Foster Farms, Livingston, Calif., may be putting a $40 million bid forPilgrim's Pride Corp.'spoultry operation in Farmersville, La. Pilgrim's, Pittsburg, Texas, had recently named the operation as one of several to be shut down in a cost saving moves. State government and local officials confirmed the bid, which reportedly has the state picking up half the expense. . . .The Associated Pressreported thatNorthern BeefPackers, Aberdeen, S.D., is on track by this August or September to finish building a $40 million beef processing plant south of town. The operation is designed to process up to 1,500 head of cattle per day and eventually employ 500 to 550 people.
