MEAT & POULTRY BRIEFS: JBS S.A., Sao Paulo, Brazil, named 30-year beef industry veteran Rich Vesta as president and chief operating officer at JBS USA LLC, Greeley, Colo. Vesta formerly was president & CEO of JBS-Packerland. He will now oversee all U.S. beef operations and work with CEO Wesley Batista. . . . Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg, Texas, said it hired Jerry Wilson as executive vice president of sales and marketing. A 29-year poultry industry veteran, Wilson previously was vice president of sales and marketing for Keystone Farms LLC. . . . Cargill Meat Solutions told meat industry media that it expects by August to complete an expansion of its Plainview, Texas, beef plant. . . . The Associated Press reported that Smithfield Packing Co. will expand its Cumberland Gap smoked meats plant in Middlesboro, Ky., as part of the company's reorganization plan. . . . Lunchmeat processor Land O'Frost Inc., Lansing, Ill., promoted George Smolar to chief financial officer.
