TheSpringdale (Ark.) Morning News said Tyson Foods Inc., Springdale, Ark., has acquiredCentral Industries, a Forest, Miss., rendering company in which Tyson has held a minority ownership. Terms were not disclosed. Central converts poultry byproducts into pet food, other animal feeds and biodiesel fuel.
"We believe 100 percent ownership will enhance the efficiency of the business and generate a greater financial return," said Jeff Webster, group vice president for Tyson's Renewable Products Division.
Tyson earlier announced that its Dynamic Fuels joint venture business (with Syntroleum Corp.) has begun building a plant in Geismar, La., to convert animal fats and greases into ultra-clean renewable diesel and jet fuels. The operation is scheduled for full-rate operations by mid 2010.
