Foster Farms buys ConAgra frozen foodservice Mexican brands
Chicken processor Foster Farms, Livingston, Calif., said it agreed to buy the Fernando's and El Extremo frozen Mexican foodservice business, brands and assets from ConAgra Foods Inc., Omaha, Neb. Terms of the deal -- scheduled for completion next week -- were not disclosed.
The Fernando's line includes Mexican entrees and appetizers, such as burritos, taquitos, mini tacos and enchiladas. El Extremo is similar business oriented to school foodservice operators.
"This acquisition is a strategic fit for Foster Farms," said President & CEO Ron Foster. "It will give us capabilities to expand our current business in the foodservice, retail and c-store channels."
Included in the sale is ConAgra's Compton, Calif., plant, which processes frozen handheld Mexican foods.
