Burger King Corp., Miami, is partnering with Crunch Pak LLC, Cashmere, Wash., to bring BK Fresh Apple Fries, a popular BK Kids Meal offering, to approximately 10,000 supermarkets nationwide this fall.
Crunch Pak processes fresh-cut, red skinless apples to resemble real French fries. The product would be packaged and merchandised in retailers' fresh produce section with recognizable Burger King brand logo.
Broad Street Licensing Group, Montclair, N.J., said that although exact serving sizes and price points are not yet confirmed, a single serving will retail for about $1 and the two groups are working on a larger package with multiple servings for $4 to $5.
"Our goal in developing BK Fresh Apple Fries was to create a menu item that satisfied parents' demands for nutrition and convenience and kids' appetites for great-tasting food," says John Schaufelberger, Burger King's senior vice president of global product marketing and innovation. "With more than 29 million servings sold since its launch last year, we knew we had a winner with both parents and kids alike. The popularity of this clever product is now opening up new channels for our business and providing our customers with a menu favorite in the places they shop most."
