United Supermarkets buys prepared foods processor
United Supermarkets LLC, Lubbock, Texas, said it acquired local refrigerated foods processor Praters Foods Inc. to strengthen its prepared food capabilities and further expand Praters' distribution.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal said Praters has a 75,000-square-foot facility producing refrigerated dinners, specialty cooked meats, entrees, casseroles, soups and desserts. The company has supplied retail and foodservice channels through private label as well as the Praters brand.
“The benefits of Praters joining the United family are tremendous for our company,” said Edward Kitten, director of manufacturing for United, in a prepared statement. “They have an outstanding reputation with our guests, and we look forward to the synergies to be developed between the Praters and United brands.”
United operates 50 stores in Texas under three banners and said it would retain all Praters employees.
