Cold storage industry loses two leaders
Willis Stewart McLeese, 98, passed away on Jan. 5, 2011. Willis developed an industrial refrigeration business for John Inglis Co. with shops and offices across Canada. In 1957, he became president of Trans Canada Freezers, which grew and by 1979 acquired United States Cold Storage with 57 plants in Canada and the United States. He served 26 years as a director and officer of International Utilities and chaired the board's audit committee.
George A. (Tony) Schnug, 65, an executive in the retail and warehousing industry, died unexpectedly at his home in La Quinta, Calif., on January 10, 2011. Schnug was served on boards for Floor-to-Ceiling, West Coast Cold LLC, Digital on Demand and he was an advisor to Bay Grove Capital. Most recently, he served as CEO for Americold Realty Trust from 2004 until 2009. Schnug worked for Americold in conjunction with his involvement with the Yucaipa Companies.
