Nova Cold Consolidated Ltd., a Canada-based cold storage firm, will expand and modernize its plant in anticipation of expanding export markets thanks to the assistance of Canada’s government and the Province of Nova Scotia.
The Government of Canada, through Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), will provide the company with a $410,000 loan under its Business Development Program to establish a modern cold chain logistical center in the Atlantic Gateway Halifax Logistics Park. ACOA’s assistance will support the purchase and installation of machinery and equipment for the new facility.
Meanwhile, the Province of Nova Scotia is investing $540,000 in the project, through the Productivity Investment Program, which will go toward purchasing new, efficient refrigeration equipment. Nova Cold offers warehousing, customs clearance, transloading, freight forwarding and other value-added services in the Atlantic Gateway Halifax Logistics Park, located in the Burnside Industrial Park.
“This expansion will provide exporters with increased capacity for their products at a time when the landscape of food exporting in Atlantic Canada and nationally is rapidly changing,” says Barry Smith, president. “Today, there is a greater emphasis on quality, traceability and food security, and our clients require more support in preparing their products for export.”
