Dematic, Grand Rapids, Mich., acquired Upturn Solutions, a Bigfork, Mont., provider of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for distribution, manufacturing and warehouse environments. The acquisition enhances Dematic solutions and expands its capability into distribution center workflow, asset and inventory management and preventative maintenance.
“The acquisition of Upturn Solutions supports our strategic mission to provide our customers with the critical business intelligence required today to streamline and automate their processes to improve work flow,” says Ulf Henriksson, president and CEO, Dematic Group. “The integration of CMMS into our software offering will further enhance our ability to deliver robust order fulfillment solutions that provide competitive advantage for the diversified markets we serve, including ecommerce, retail, apparel, healthcare, 3PL, food, beverage, parcel and manufacturing.”
The Dematic CMMS offering is a subscription-based service designed by maintenance people for maintenance people. The product offers the customer the ability to “pay as you go” rather than requiring a large upfront investment as with traditional CMMS.
“In listening to our customers, we know they struggle with the upfront investment and usability of today’s CMMS offerings,” says John Baysore, president and CEO, Dematic North America. “Our acquisition of Upturn will allow Dematic to closely integrate and leverage the benefits of a streamlined maintenance management tool with our material handling knowledge at a very affordable price.”
The transaction was finalized Dec. 23, 2013. The Bigfork office location will continue operations, including research and development, sales and service.
