Preferred Freezer Services (PFS), Chatham, N.J., completed the expansion to its San Leandro, Calif., facility, making this the company’s seventh cold storage facility in California and the 33rd worldwide.
The new 250,000-square-foot facility boasts 15 million cubic feet of storage capacity, an over-sized truck yard space, 23 dock doors with levelers and a PFS online information system. The cold storage warehouse offers three different temperature zones providing cold chain distributors the opportunity to store a wide range of products under one roof. Temperature compartments include a cooler at 34-38°F, a freezer at 0°F and a low-temperature freezer at -20°F, capable of handling ice cream.
“Our existing and new customer demand in the San Francisco Bay area for additional cold storage space has continued to grow over the last three years, and we are thrilled to finally be able to meet those requests,” says John Galiher, chief executive officer.
The construction project began in October 2013 on a 15-acre former lumber site. PFS will start accepting product on June 16.
