Nestlé USA, Solon, Ohio, expanded its quality assurance lab in Dublin, Ohio, which tests samples of DiGiorno pizza and Häagen-Dazs ice cream, among other brands, for foodborne pathogens, flags environmental contaminants and verifies nutritional claims.
The $11 million, 35,000-square-foot addition includes five acres of land formerly owned by Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and nearly doubles the footprint of its original Dublin operation, which opened in 1991.
In 2008, Nestlé added an 8,000-square-foot controlled storage building, and then in 2002, underwent a comprehensive renovation, which included adding 50 scientific positions, including chemists, microbiologists, food scientists, quality control specialists and administrative personnel.
