McShane Construction Co., Rosemont, Ill., completed the 112,065-square-foot renovation of an existing building, transforming it into a comprehensive food preparation facility for DO & CO Chicago Catering, Inc. Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, DO & CO is a catering company active in airline, train and international events catering, and expanded its services to O’Hare International Airport, providing first-class, in-flight food services to airliners serving international destinations.
After reviewing the available properties within the O’Hare market, DO & CO Chicago selected an existing facility at 2150 Frontage Road in Des Plaines, Ill. The property is situated just minutes from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. McShane Construction enhanced the overall shell of the building to support new refrigeration components, kitchen equipment and upgraded building and safety systems and modernized the facility’s office, warehouse and production areas with contemporary features to optimize operational efficiencies.
To accommodate the immediate production needs of DO & CO, McShane Construction completed temporary kitchens and food preparation areas, allowing the facility to operate one month prior to final turnover. McShane Construction completed the renovation of the 24,416-square-foot production area incorporating multiple prefabricated freezers, 69,142 square feet of storage space, 11,254 square feet of office and a 7,253-square-foot dock staging area. McShane Construction also completed additional paved parking, installed a secured gate and upgraded landscaping. The new food preparation facility operates on a 24/7 basis, meets FDA food handling and preparation standards and supports both Halal and non-Halal foods.
“We are delighted to have been selected by DO & CO Chicago Catering and JLL to complete the sophisticated conversion of a mature industrial facility into a contemporary food preparation building,” says Jeffrey Raday, president. “McShane’s team implemented a fast track and comprehensive construction program to meet our client’s operational schedule for this modern food preparation facility.”
