The J.M. Smucker Co., Orrville, Ohio, announced plans to add a production line at its Scottsville, Ky., Uncrustables manufacturing plant.
“Smucker's Uncrustables frozen sandwiches hold a 4% share in the category. And, with only a 6% household penetration, we see significant room for growth, as consumers are using Uncrustables for lunchtime occasions as well as snacking options on the go,” said Tina Floyd, vice president of marketing for consumer foods, in the company’s investor day presentation.
“We have invested significant dollars over the last 10-12 years in [the Scottsville] site,” adds Mark Smucker, president of consumer and natural foods. “We do have a need to continue to invest in that line, or in that facility. We've actually put a new bakery in, and with this new line, we will increase our capacity. We are already producing over 1 million sandwiches a day. This line will increase that production and give us the flexibility to focus on efficiency improvements across the entire facility. So, it's not just this one line, but it will give us opportunities over the next, say two years, to continue to optimize the site.”
