Albertsons Cos., Boise, Idaho, partnered with Trace Register, a Seattle, Wash.-based provider of supply chain seafood traceability solutions, to help the retailer fulfill its Responsible Seafood Policy and Commitments.
Albertsons has an aggressive goal to ensure 100% of its Top 20 fresh and private label frozen seafood products meet the company’s stringent Responsible Seafood Policy by 2022. This commitment means that approximately 94% of products (by volume) sold in service cases and freezers will be either Green- or Yellow-rated — which are the highest ratings given by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program — certified to an equivalent environmental standard or sourced from fisheries or farms making measurable and time-bound improvements.
“Trace Register’s leading-edge monitoring and analytics will help track the movement of our products from the oceans or farm all the way to our U.S. distribution centers, so we can verify that our requirements for sustainable, responsible sourcing are met,” says Anthony Snow, director of seafood, Albertsons.
Trace Register’s TR+ Analytics with continuous monitoring continuous auditing (CMCA) will enable Albertsons to meet sustainability specifications in the seafood supply chain on every shipment. Along with FishWise, Albertsons’ seafood sustainability consulting partner, the company will be able to continuously audit progress toward its sustainability commitments and monitor each shipment for compliance.
“We’re excited our traceability platform will enable Albertsons Cos. to achieve their sustainability goals,” says Phil Werdal, chief executive officer, Trace Register. “This proactive approach means they can also achieve improved efficiency, lower costs and reduced risk.”
