Treofan, Germany, developed a low-loss, thermally stable and safe separator for lithium-ion battery cells as part of its HiT-Cell (high-temperature cell) research project.
This new separator is said to offer significantly higher temperature stability and increase thermal stability, making it suitable for use in lithium-ion battery cells used in electric mobility.
The HiT-Cell project is led by Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany. The project partners are Treofan (development of thermally stable separator film), EAS Germany (project management and cell production), RWTH Aachen University, Germany (further development of electrode production) and Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology, Germany (development of active electrode materials).
The HiT-Cell project is also publicly funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF), and will run until the end of 2020.
