Gordon Food Service, Grand Rapids, Mich., announced plans to expand its Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, distribution center.

Gordon Food Service first opened the Amherst distribution center in 2003 to serve customers located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

“For the past few years, our business in this region has grown significantly,” says Dean Noble, president,

Gordon Food Service Canada. “We’re excited to see that result in new investment and future growth. With this facility expansion, we have the opportunity to continue to extend our distribution footprint and expand our product offering.”

Construction at the Amherst facility began this month, with a scheduled completion date of winter 2019. The expansion will add 45,000 square feet of warehouse space, including refrigerated and frozen storage.

“The Amherst community has been a great partner in our success in the region,” says Cam Godin, president, Gordon Food Service Atlantic division. “Gordon Food Service is very pleased to locate our operations for the Atlantic region in Amherst, an ideal location for distribution business in Canada. We are proud to have a high-performance team of very talented people, and look forward to many years of growing and sustaining our business and the local community.”
