More and more consumers are visiting shopping centers with supermarkets as the main store and stores not part of a shopping center or mall, according to a survey conducted by UBS, Switzerland.
“We think this means if a retail location can drive its own traffic and become a ‘destination’ in industry parlance, consumers will still seek it out,” says Jay Sole, retail analyst.
Meanwhile, nearly 7% of shoppers surveyed say they go to the mall to eat at the food court or just hang out instead of visiting a big box store.
“Since the mall is no longer the place consumers discover fashion, it makes sense the reasons they visit the mall are changing,” adds Sole.
