The new chef-crafted, Plant-Based Burger by Tofurky is created using a combination of soy protein, vegetable protein, and wheat gluten and lightly seasoned with salt, onion, garlic, and black pepper. It sizzles and cooks beautifully on the grill, with a savory aroma and satisfying bite. In addition to offering a tasty flavor profile, these burgers are designed for the plant-based cold case, from packaging to turnkey case-to-shelf placement. They also have greater focus on the environment than many of their plant-based peers. The burger’s soy base offers a more sustainable footprint (given the ability to use all parts of the bean) when compared to pea protein, found in other products. Its two-patty packs use sturdy, recyclable cartons that tout 23% less paperboard material, and inner packaging has 69% less plastic film waste than others. Like all Tofurky foods, the new burgers are 100% non-GMO and vegan. In development for this burger, R&D set hedonic standards for consumer likability; including attributes for flavor, texture and aroma. Rigorous sensory panels were conducted to ensure this burger performed well, within a millennial-forward audience and self-described flexitarian consumer. Our goal was to make a great first impression, while maintaining a concise ingredient statement, to honor Tofurky’s brand loyalists as well as elevate the plant-based category.
