US Foods is donating approximately $250,000 of food to help the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, bring pop-up food pantries to communities of color on Chicago’s South and West Sides, which have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19, longtime food insecurity and the recent civil unrest.
Lee Kum Kee, a leader in authentic Asian sauces and flavors partnered with the largest Asian dining concept in the U.S.--Panda Express--to prepare over 1,000 bowls for the health care staff on the front lines treating COVID-19 patients at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, California; Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital in Los Angeles; and Dignity Health California Hospital in Los Angeles. Lee Kum Kee is gathering members of their volunteer team to help distribute these bowls on site and to make sure that each frontline staff member receives a meal.
Cooper Farms is donating $500 to The Ohio Association of Foodbanks as a part of team member and social media outreach. The company is also donating another 25,200 dozen eggs to foodbanks in Lima and Toledo, to provide much needed protein. This donation comes just weeks after a donation of nearly 6,000 pounds of turkey and two truckloads of eggs to the association.
In an effort to give back to communities that have been adversely affected by the recent pandemic, John Soules Foods donated a truckload with over 37,000 lbs. of chicken to a charitable organization in Boerne, Texas, serving the Hill Country area of Texas. The company delivered 150,000 portions of boneless chicken wings, tenders, and chicken fillets to the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries in Boerne, Texas, which serves eight surrounding counties to help people in need.

Working with the Feeding America food bank network, FiveStar, the maker of Simply Fresh branded products, is now on the frontlines distributing fresh and wholesome foods directly to the community as part of a massive USDA-funded program known as “Farmers to Families.” FiveStar committed to providing hundreds of thousands of boxes filled with high quality, fresh, healthy products through the end of June. FiveStar’s Farmers to Families boxes include generous portions of Caesar Salad, Coleslaw Salad, Sweet Onion Broccoli Sauté Kit, Asian Stir-fry Kit, Almond Cranberry Salad, and Crisp Sliced Apples.
In recognition and gratitude of their service during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is giving their more than 15,000 active employee-partners a gift card to help them get what they need for their family this holiday week. Full-time employees are receiving a $100 BGC gift card and part-time employees are receiving a $50 BGC gift card totaling $1.3 million given.

Following nearly two dozen positive diagnoses of COVID-19 at a Ralphs in Hollywood and several protests, grocery workers represented by the UFCW Local 770 learned Monday that Kroger, which owns Ralphs and Food 4 Less, has agreed to provide free, voluntary COVID-19 testing to all members at its flagship Hollywood store.
South Dakota facility will reopen in phases starting May 7, had been closed since April 12.

Smithfield Foods will resume pork processing operations in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after being shut down since April 12. Smithfield receiving positive confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that the company is in full compliance with all CDC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidance.
Facility reopens following a tour and review of safety protocols by local health and government officials.

Tyson Fresh Meats, the beef and pork subsidiary of Tyson Foods, announced it will resume limited production at its Waterloo, Iowa, facility on Thursday, May 7. Team members have been invited to tour the facility Wednesday to view the enhanced safety precautions and protective social distancing measures installed throughout the plant.
