US Foods has donated more than $10 million in food and supplies to local food banks and charitable organizations across the country since the beginning of March. The donations include items such as meat, dairy, produce and other non-food supplies. Given the impacts of COVID-19, many food banks are struggling to meet the increasing needs of their communities as more Americans seek support. According to Feeding America, school closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to stay-at-home orders will disproportionately impact people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity.
Carrier Transicold is providing a Model 35X direct-drive refrigeration unit to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The unit will be used to support the School Food Mobile program, which delivers food and milk to school-aged children who are not receiving meals at school due to coronavirus-related closures. Separately, Carrier Transicold is donating a Supra 950 truck refrigeration unit for a new 28-foot box truck that will support Gleaners’ expanded emergency response efforts, including 66 new drive-up food distribution sites, modeled after Gleaners’ School Food Mobile program.
Recently, 100 volunteers from Bellisio Foods, the largest employer in Jackson County, shared more than 90,000 meals from drive-through distribution centers at Oak Hill High School, Jackson High School and Vinton County High School. A total of more than 2,500 vehicles each received two cases (or 36 meals), bringing the total number of meals donated to Southern Ohioans by Bellisio Foods in the past month to more than 175,000.
Cooper Farms is working to provide food and resources to their fellow Ohioans. The farm and food company, located in western Ohio, has made several donations over the past month, providing over 21,000 protein-rich meals, including nearly 6,000 pounds of turkey and 27,000 dozen eggs to the Ohio Association of Food Banks in a series of deliveries from the turkey, pork and egg company. An additional 1,100 pounds of turkey burgers were donated to area groups providing socially distanced serving of hot lunches for children and meals after virtual church services.
Borden Cheese donated 48,000 units of its Borden Cheese Crisps ‘n Cubes snack trays to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which is part of the national Feeding America network. The donation, which was delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee in Nashville, Tennessee, will be distributed to hungry adults and children in 46 counties across the state. Additionally, a portion of the donated product will go to essential health care workers on the front lines at Nashville General Hospital.
Golden West Food Group (GWFG) is donating $2 million worth of meats to the City of Hope Hospital, Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Unified School District, Salvation Army, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and others in need, to support the relief efforts associated with COVID-19 pandemic. GWFG is headquartered in Los Angeles County, California.
Foster Farms is donating 400,000 servings of poultry to community hunger relief organizations throughout California to help families impacted economically by COVID-19. Recently, the family-owned company announced a donation of two million servings of protein to food banks and community organizations on the West Coast, and in Louisiana and Alabama.
SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood Co. and Budweiser are delivering multiple truckloads of SeaPak Budweiser Beer Battered Shrimp in Cincinnati, Ohio, to support those in need during the coronavirus outbreak. The donation will provide 100,000 servings of seafood to Freestore Foodbank--the largest emergency food and services provider in the Greater Cincinnati area, which also includes parts of Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana. Ohio’s recent "stay at home" order and other restrictions have made access to food more difficult for many living in Greater Cincinnati.
Butterball donated 500,000 meals to The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina today. The donation will help feed those most impacted by COVID-19 in the communities where Butterball team members live and work.
Five hunger relief organizations in Georgia, Ohio and Tennessee will receive 1,700 pounds of product in response to coronavirus-related needs.

Farm Rich donated over 1,700 pounds of product--approximately 24,000 mozzarella cheese sticks--to five local food banks and organizations providing food to residents in need. The donations were made to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia (Brunswick, Georgia, located near Farm Rich HQ), Cincinnati Area Senior Services, and The Healing Center (both in Cincinnati, Ohio), and the Mid-South Food Bank (Memphis, Tennessee).
