Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Canada, signed a definitive agreement to acquire VIAU Foods, a Canada-based producer of premium Italian cooked, dry-cured and charcuterie meats, for $215 million.
The 210,000-square-foot expansion is one of the largest in the company’s history.

Hormel Foods Corp., Austin, Minn., announced plans to invest approximately $150 million in an expansion of the company’s Burke manufacturing facility in Nevada, Iowa.
The merged company will operate under the Deli Star name.

Deli Star Corp., a Fayetteville, Ill.-based producer of high-quality cooked meats, merged with King’s Food Products, a Belleville, Ill.-based producer of confectionary fudge and a co-packer of several brands of sauces, dressings and salsas, effective April 1.
Skilcor Food Products maintains annual sales of approximately $27 million and operates out of a specially designed 34,000-square-foot facility that was built in 2006.

Premium Brands Holdings Corp., Canada, acquired a 100% interest in Ontario, Canada-based Skilcor Food Products, a manufacturer of cooked back ribs and other unique protein products.
Cargill is investing $111 million to convert its Columbus, Neb., ground beef plant to a cooked meats facility and relocate current ground beef production to existing processing facilities at Butler, Wis., and Forth Worth, Texas.
Minneapolis-based Cargill Inc. announced plans to move its Springfield, Mo., meat slicing and packaging facility to Nebraska City, Neb., and Waco, Texas.
