Milk Cult, a Washington D.C.-based ice cream company, is launching four hand-crafted, made from scratch ice cream novelties at Whole Foods. Over the last decade, Milk Cult has created more than 100 ice cream flavors with locally sourced dairy from Maryland and Pennsylvania, with four of its best creations including two vegan options for national wholesale.
US Foods announced the opening of the US Foods Scholars application period. US Foods Scholars provides financial support and development opportunities to culinary and hospitality students who demonstrate tremendous promise and achievement but require assistance to take the next step of their career. With the addition of Birmingham, Ala., Daytona Beach, Fla. and Portland, Ore., the program now reaches nine markets. This year, up to 18 students will receive $20,000 each to support their continued culinary or hospitality education, in addition to training opportunities with US Foods culinary professionals.
The annual "What's Hot" list gives a peak into which food, beverages and culinary themes will be the new items on restaurant menus in 2017.

The National Restaurant Association (NRA), Washington, D.C., and members of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), St. Augustine, Fla., surveyed nearly 1,300 professional chefs to explore food and beverage trends at restaurants in the coming year.
In 2017, chefs and foodies will be inspired by ancient wellness philosophies and traditional cooking methods to create new and exciting menu items and elevated dining experiences.

The Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat & Chronicle reported that Rochester retailer Wegmans Food Markets opened a $36 million Culinary Innovation Center expansion at its meat shipping and receiving facility in Chili, N.Y.
