The largest vertical farming company in the U.S. has acquired Traptic, a company utilizing computer vision, robotic arms and artificial intelligence (AI), to harvest fruiting, vine and other delicate crops.
The company is also building a 60,000-square-foot distribution warehouse at the same Ohio location.

Nature Fresh Farms is expanding its operations in Delta, Ohio, increasing their organic acreage as well as a plans to build a new distribution center. The property expansion will include doubling the greenhouse acreage from the current 45 acres to 90, with the future extension to be dedicated to year-round organics. This new greenhouse allows the company to expand organics program using state of the art tech to grow tomatoes and peppers throughout the year.
Greenhouse Competitions in Leamington, Ontario, made a return this year hosting its annual Greenhouse Vegetable Awards, showcasing the best greenhouse-grown produce from leading North American growers. Family-owned Nature Fresh Farms was awarded overall winner of the Hottest Tomato with their newest Umami Cherry Tomato, in addition to winning the entire Bite-Sized Tomato category with their Axiany placing third, Orange Cherry receiving second, and their Umami Cherry Tomato awarded first place.
Pure Flavor’s Cloud 9 Bite-Sized Fruity Tomatoes have been awarded the ChefsBest Excellence Award, adding to the reputation of this snacking tomato endorsed by professional chefs.
Houweling’s Group has moved to its new Nogales, Arizona, distribution and packing services center. Having outgrown the 18,000-square-foot facility the company operated the last few years, the new 30,000-square-foot facility has 50% more receiving bays, six coolers with the ability to manage three separate climate zones and a cooled packing area.
