Colmac Coil Manufacturing, Inc. recently donated a refrigerated trailer to the Northeast Washington (N.E.W) Hunger Coalition for use this summer. The new refrigerated trailer designed and manufactured by Colmac Coil is part of the Cool Pup program from N.E.W., which helps solve the challenge of transporting fresh produce from farms to 17 food pantries supported by NEW Hunger Coalition and their community partners. The goal of the Cool Pups program is to provide fresh and healthy produce to Northeast Washington community members experiencing food insecurity.
Colmac designed and manufactured an enclosure with industrial grade insulated panels, with similar construction as our successful A+P “mini penthouse” evaporator product line.
“Northeast Washington Hunger Coalition is a nonprofit organization working to stabilize and strengthen local emergency food systems through our innovative Farm to Food Pantry program. We use donations, WSDA funds and grants to contract with local farmers, most of which are small scale family-owned businesses,” said Stephani Smith, director of N.E.W. Hunger Coalition “They grow produce that we pick up and deliver to food banks. The Cool Pup trailer Colmac Coil has generously provided will keep this produce in peak condition during transport from 12 local farms to 17 food banks within Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties. We are supporting the viability of local farms and moving nutritious food to people in need.”
The N.E.W. Hunger Coalition started in 2011, to work stabilize and strengthen the emergency food system in Northeast Washington communities, while addressing the root causes of hunger. According to N.E.W., in 2015, its 17 food bank members supported 15,407 people in Northeast Washington with over 2,270,242 pounds of food. Individuals who are food insecure comprise 15.2% of Stevens County: approximately 29% have disabilities, 34% are seniors and 26% are children
“Colmac Coil is proud to have donated our time and materials in manufacturing this Cool Pup trailer for the N.E.W Hunger Coalition. We believe in the importance of giving back to our local community and supporting those in need,” said Joe Fazzari, P.E., president of Colmac Coil.
