MEAT & POULTRY BRIEFS: Meat industry media said Pilgrim's Pride Corp., Pittsburg, Texas, notified employees at its Live Oak, Fla., plant that the company will discontinue second-shift operations during the next 60 to 90 days, eliminating approximately 505 of 1,400 jobs....Tyson Foods Inc., Springdale, Ark., will lay off 45 workers in Harrisonburg, Va., as it shifts processing to cut-up chickens instead of whole ones, according to a report in the Harrisonburg (Va.) Daily-News Record. The plant's remaining 375 employees will work at reduced hours through 2009, Tyson said.
