AFFI Web site promotes safe microwave cooking
The American Frozen Foods Institute (AFFI), McLean, Va., has launched microwaveovenfacts.com, a Web site offering consumers (1) wattage information for more than 200 microwave oven units, (2) best practices for food preparation and (3) other resources to aid in safe microwave cooking.
"Public health and safety is a priority for AFFI and its member companies and microwave ovens are used to prepare many of the foods consumers purchase," said Robert Garfield, AFFI's interim president.
AFFI believes consumers will prepare food more safely -- according to package instructions -- when they know their microwave wattage.
