Conference crowns top organic new products
Smoked salmon and frozen yogurt were two of the four new products honored at the first All Things Organic New Product Competition, held during the recent All Things Organic Conference & Trade Show in Chicago.
Judges evaluated new offerings on criteria specific to each category including taste and appearance, efficacy, convenience and practicality, packaging and merchandising, as well as originality and marketability.
The Best Overall Organic Retail new product was an Elderflower Cured Gravadlax from Organic Smokehouse, Shropshire, U.K.
The Best Overall Organic Foodservice new product was a functional frozen yogurt from Cloud Top, Pasadena, Calif.
Contest judges included Scott Silverman, category director (natural & organic), Winn-Dixie Stores Inc.; Steve Schoultz, contract manufacturing, Sara Lee Corp.; and Vaughan Lazar, president and founder of Pizza Fusion.
