J & J Snack Foods Corp., Pennsauken, N.J., said it purchased the assets ofCalifornia Churros, a Colton, Calif., producer of frozen Mexican churro snacks.
Although terms were not disclosed, officials said California Churros had 2009 annual sales of approximately $11 million and that company founder Jorge Martinez continues with the business in Colton.
California Churros' website says the company began in 1980. Today, the business' 40,000-square-foot plant produces frozen churros for retail, deli and foodservice channels, including non-commercial school distribution.
"We are pleased to partner with J & J Snack Foods and look forward to continuing to grow the churro category," said Martinez.
