Pinnacle Foods Group LLC, Mountain Lakes, N.J., said it completed its $1.3 billion purchase ofBirds Eye Foods Inc.from a holding company controlled by Vestar Capital Partners, Pro-Fac Cooperative and Birds Eye Foods management.
"Birds Eye Foods represents an ideal strategic fit," said Bob Gamgort, Pinnacle chief executive officer. "We look forward to harnessing the power of the combined brand portfolio to better serve our customers and customers."
Officials said Birds Eye has more than $930 million in annual sales from Birds Eye frozen vegetables and meals, as well as from such shelf-stable offerings as Comstock and Wilderness pie fillings; Nalley and Brooks chili and chili ingredients; and Tim's Cascade Snacks, Snyder of Berlin and Husman.
The Birds Eye frozen vegetable and meal offerings complement Pinnacle's frozen food line, which includes Swanson and Swanson Hungry-Man frozen dinners and entrees, Van de Kamp's and Mrs. Paul's frozen seafood, Aunt Jemima frozen breakfast entrees, Lender's bagels and Celeste frozen pizza.
Pinnacle also markets Duncan Hines baking mixes and frostings, Vlasic pickles, Mrs. Butterworth's and Log Cabin syrups and Armour canned meats.
