Market Maneuvers: Domino's, Papa Murphy's in the news
FOODSERVICE MARKET MANEUVERS: PIZZA
Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Domino's Pizza last year introduced a new line of oven-baked sandwiches and says that "overnight [it] became the largest sandwich delivery company in America" with more than 35 million sandwiches sold and more $185 million in sales. Now Domino's is extending its oven-baked sandwich line with four more varieties starting at $4.99. New offerings include Italian Sausage and Peppers, Buffalo Chicken with Blue Cheese, Sweet and Spicy Chicken Habanero and Mediterranean Veggie.
Consumers told Restaurants & Institutions magazine that Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake Pizza is one of the nation's top 10 restaurant chains. In the overall rankings among all restaurant categories, Papa Murphy's was one of only two quick service restaurants (QSR) in the top 10, joining other industry leaders such as P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Olive Garden and The Cheesecake Factory.
Earlier this year, more than 3,000 consumers rated over 200 chain restaurants on a variety of guest satisfaction attributes in Restaurants & Institution's annual "Consumers' Choice in Chains" survey. Vancouver, Wash.-based Papa Murphy's received the highest possible accolade - the Platinum Award - in the pizza segment by a large margin, soaring 16 percent above the pizza category's second-place winner.
