The Global Probiotics Council (GPC) said it is continuing its "Young Investigator Grant for Probiotics Research" program, which next year will award two $50,000 grants to rising young investigators in the field of probiotics. Founded by DANONE and Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd., GPC promotes the advancement of probiotics and gastrointestinal microbiota research in the United States. 2010 will be the third consecutive year for the research grants.
Last month brought the opening of Canada's Smartest Kitchen, which officials described as a "state-of-the-art facility that combines culinary arts with the science of food to create marketable food products. Located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the research center is collaborative effort involving the Government of Canada, the Province of Prince Edward Island, Cavendish Farms, and Holland College. The new 12,000-square foot facility is located at Holland College's Tourism and Culinary Centre in downtown Charlottetown. Frozen potato and appetizer processor Cavendish Farms has its own new Cavendish Farms Culinary Creation Centre on the lower level of the facility.
