Dean Foods to halt Kentucky production
The Associated Press reported that dairy giant Dean Foods, Dallas, plans in mid August to halt processing operations at its LouisTrauth Dairy plant in Newport, Ky.
A spokesperson said Dean will retain 190 people at the site for the cooler, freezer, sales, administration and distribution activities. However, approximately 80 people will lose production jobs. Founded in 1920, Trauth produces milk, ice cream and frozen novelties, cultured products, juices and drinks.
Dean said the cost-cutting move was necessary to be "as efficient as possible."
