Feedstuffsreported that South Korea'sHarim Holdings Co. Ltd.won an auction to buy Allen Family Foods Inc., a vertically integrated chicken processor in Seaford, Del.Feedstuffs quoted Allen CEO Bob Turley, who noted that officials forHarim USA Ltd. indicated that Harim would buy the company intact and keep all
facilities operating, which would save the jobs of Allen's 2,400
employees. Allen has a breeder farm in Liberty, N.C.; a feed mill and hatchery in
Seaford; a hatchery in Dagsboro, Del., and processing plants in Cordova
and Harbeson, Del. The company also has a rendering business, JCR
Enterprises, in Linkwood, Del.
Sausage and hand-held sandwich processorsJC Potter, Durant, Okla., andWilliams Sausage Co., Union City, Tenn., said they agreed to form a joint venture, which will be calledPotter Premium Sausage, LLC. Officials noted that both companies -- serving the South Central and Southeast markets -- already have committed more than $15 million in capital investments in order to improve and expand their sausage and sandwich production capabilities.
The Bismarck (N.D.) Tribunereported thatCloverdale Foods, Mandan, N.D., will close its hog slaughtering plant in Minot, N.D. and move some of the production to Mandan. The paper quoted President T.J. Russell, who said the decision was in part a result of the flood in Minot but also part of Cloverdale’s broader business strategy of concentrating on more value-added products.
