Mid Atlantic Bakery, Baltimore, Md., is expanding its freezer and dry storage space, and called on long-time partner, A M King, Charlotte, N.C., to complete the project. Mid Atlantic Bakery bakes a variety of frozen bread products, including sandwich breads, hot dog and hamburger rolls and breadsticks.
“While the production space is serving Mid Atlantic Bakery’s current needs, this project will expand their capabilities by delivering the facilities necessary to freeze the bread on-site and store it prior to distribution,” says Tyler White, project manager.
With a mutual commitment to continuous improvement, A M King and Mid Atlantic Bakery partnered to improve overall efficiency, deliver cost reductions and enable increased control over the production process.
“Delivering an incremental 36,000 square feet of space, this multi-faceted project will involve the incorporation of an ammonia refrigeration system with a self-contained refrigeration engine room, the erection of insulated metal panel exterior walls and a precast dock wall, coupled with vertical dock levelers to expedite loading from the freezer space. A new locker room for employees rounds out the renovation project,” says White.
The detailed design and execution plan was completed in a mere two months, and the new space is scheduled to be fully operational within six months.
