Seaboard Foods, Shawnee Mission, Kan., announced plans to expand its Greeley County Ladder Creek hog feeding operations in western Kansas.
The pork processor plans to install up to 396,000 nursery pigs or up to 198,000 mature hogs on the facility. Seaboard Foods also converted irrigation rights to livestock watering, which does not increase—and in some instances decreases—the amount of water withdrawn from the aquifer.
"Seaboard Foods and our dedicated team of people remain committed to serving as responsible stewards of the environment in the communities in which we live, work and operate,” according to Seaboard Foods’ executives. “This commitment extends to ensuring we remain in compliance with environmental regulations and permits, including the one issued by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) to add barns at our Ladder Creek Farm.”
