Sargento Foods, Plymouth, Wis., announced in January that it will be making its third major expansion—an 80,000-square-foot addition to its existing production facility in Kiel, Wis.
The Kiel plant opened in 1993 on a 40-acre site in Kiel Industrial Park. It expanded by 40,000 square feet in 2000 and 60,000 square feet in 2007. This facility produces natural shredded, sliced and snack cheeses, cheese dips and battered and breaded frozen appetizers.
“Sargento remains steadfast in our commitment to growing in Wisconsin,” says Louie Gentine, chief executive officer. “We look forward to the possibility of expanding our Kiel facility to add production lines and better accommodate our employees.”
The expansion would include additional space for production, storage and employee facilities, including a health and wellness center and increased locker area to accommodate up to 720 employees during the next five years. The plant currently employs 540 people.
Construction began the second half of 2015 with occupancy expected by late 2016.
