Canada-based Saputo Inc. acquired Woolwich Dairy, Lancaster, Wis., for $80 million.

Woolwich Dairy produces, distributes, markets and sells branded and private label goat cheese in Canada and the United States under the Woolwich Dairy, Chevrai and Wholesome Goat brands. Its operations are comprised of three manufacturing facilities (two in Canada and one in Wisconsin), as well as a distribution center in Canada.

The business employs approximately 190 people.

This transaction enables Saputo to increase its presence in the specialty cheese category in North America.
