Wabash National Corp., a Lafayette, Ind.-based industrial manufacturer and producer of semi-trailers, liquid transportation systems and stationary vessels, expanded its production facility in San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, Mexico, to accommodate growth in the food, beverage and dairy market in Mexico, as well as Central and South America.
“The added production capacity at our San José Iturbide facility provides greater opportunity for us to service the global capital equipment needs of our food, dairy and beverage customers,” says Mark Weber, group president, diversified products. “We’re already seeing increased demand for our industry-leading Walker dairy silos, as the food, dairy and beverage market in Mexico has experienced significant growth in recent years.”
The San José Iturbide Operation primarily manufactures stainless-steel tank trailers under the Bulk brand, but added production for Walker brand engineered products, including dairy silos, and Brenner tanks last year.
To date, Wabash National has built 27 silos in Mexico since production began last year.
The San José Iturbide facility includes nearly 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space, more than 40% of which was added in the expansion. As a result, Wabash National added more than 30 new jobs.
And, San José Iturbide Operation has earned numerous safety and environmental awards and recognitions, most recently achieving ISO 14001:2004 registration.
“Safety is our No. 1 value and priority, but environmental consciousness is as important to us as it is to our customers and communities,” says Weber. “Earning the ISO 14001:2004 registration is one more way to demonstrate our commitment to verifiable environmental management.”
