Price-Trak, New York, announced key findings for the first nine months of 2017. The study pertains to data that was collected from a confidential panel of wholesalers and retailers and included nearly 40,000 items and over a half million trade promotions or deals.
The first nine months of 2017 displayed a significant increase in new UPC codes vs. the same period in the prior year, with refrigerated yogurt experiencing a 14.5% increase.
Pricing pressure was evident in over 40% of the 150 categories monitored by The Price-Trak Report, and is most likely related to the margin pressure retailers are experiencing from online alternatives. As retailers look to maintain their margins, there is more pressure on manufacturers to lower pricing. The frozen prepared foods category showed a 10.44% drop in pricing, while frozen breakfast showcased a 4.54% decline in pricing. However, yogurt reported a 5.71% increase in pricing during the same period.
