Dairy Briefs: Great Lakes, O-AT-KA Milk in the news
DAIRY BRIEFS: Despite some thoughts of moving a new plant south of Syracuse, N.Y., Great Lakes Cheese, Hiram, Ohio, will finish a $67 million facility in Adams, N.Y., near an existing operation there. Syracuse, N.Y.'s News 10 Now television station said Great Lakes now expects by September to complete construction on the new 142,000-square-foot site Officials said the new plant will produce 870 million pounds of cheese a year. . . . O-AT-KA Milk Products Cooperative Inc., Batavia, N.Y., said it is celebrating its 50th anniversary. O-AT-KA processes more than 600 million pounds of milk per year and is a leading processor of evaporated milk, butter and bulk fluids. Officials say the cooperative also has branched into infant formula, dietary nutritional beverages, protein and energy drinks as well as ready-to-drink coffees, teas and dairy-based liqueurs.
